Monitoring refugees in the Mediterranean Sea through Satellite Imageries

Space Shepherd is a project that has been awarded the Polisocial Award 2014, a scheme that funds research projects with social aims. The idea of Space Shepherd is to use scientific and commercial satellites that already operate on a regular basis to monitor the immigration flows in the Mediterranean Sea, and to support search-and-rescue operations. In this workshop we will present the activities carried out during the feasibility study as well as the most relevant results achieved. The possible implementation of such system will also be discussed, along with the associated potentialities.
